*ANNOUNCEMENT*

It is with deep regret that we must announce that, due to a medical issue, Michael Moorcock can no longer join us in person this June. This is obviously more than a huge disappointment for us, but his health is the primary focus. However, whilst being unable to be here in person this year, he is eager to ‘join us’ via a video link, work on which is in progress. Michael’s health is the only consideration here and we hope everyone will understand this.

We are in communication and talking about working together in the future, we are looking forward to this immensely! Watch this space.

Please do still come along to ASDO and the Arts of Steam event, with the definite attendance of the fantastic KW Jeter, Rosie Garland, and a host of other writers, artists and makers, it promises to be a unique and awesome event.

Rosie Garland

To balance it up we thought we would invite female author
Rosie Garland to join us at A Splendid Day Out

Tagged ‘literary hero’ by The Skinny, Rosie is a novelist, poet and singer with post-punk band The March Violets. She also performs twisted cabaret as Rosie Lugosi the Vampire Queen, cabaret chanteuse and mistress of ceremonies. With a passion for language nurtured by libraries, she started out in spoken word, garnering praise from Apples and Snakes as ‘one of the country’s finest performance poets’.

Her award-winning short stories, poems and essays have been widely anthologised. She has six solo collections of poetry including ‘Everything Must Go’ (Holland Park Press 2012), which draws on her experience of throat cancer. Her new collection, ‘As In Judy’ (Flapjack Press) is out now. Rosie was awarded a Hawthornden Fellowship in 2017. She has also received the DaDa Award for Performance Artist of the Year, the Diva Award for Solo Performer, and a Poetry Award from the People’s Café, New York.

Rosie will be joining us for Arts Of Steam in the Winter Gardens all over the weekend. 2nd & 3rd June 2018

STATEMENT

As you are all now probably aware, ASDO has not been successful in gaining support from our local Town Council for our June 2018 event. This has obviously hit us hard as we were ‘going for broke’ and were in the process of planning an extraordinary event. We, the ASDO team, however, must reassure you that June isn’t cancelled! By hook or by crook there will be an ASDO next summer and it will be as magnificent as we can make it for you.

It is important to understand that ASDO was never ‘just’ a Steampunk event, it was much, much more. It was a device to brighten and help our town rediscover the silliness and magnificence of its Victorian past, and as such aid in its regeneration. It is also important to understand that this situation is caused by the few not by the many, so Morecambe is still very much up for us, even though its representatives may not be.

We are now embarking on various ideas to make our dreams become reality again, but would ask you all one small favour. If you like what we do, please spread the word, bring your friends, their friends, their neighbours and whoever else needs to be indoctrinated into a state of silly whimsy, creative pleasure and artistic splendour.

We have set up a Just giving page to enable us to buy our own marquees and equipment to ensure the success of future years.  Any amount you feel you can give is hugely appreciated.
